Condition Monitoring (Predictive Maintenance)

Contel provides industrial customers with condition monitoring solutions in order to reduce the downtime of their production facilities.

Studies at leading research institutes in the United States have found that a significant amount of the maintenance activity executed in American industry is not essentially necessary. Contel offers customers solutions capable of identifying potential failures on the production floor, and hence the ability to prevent extensive damage (financial, environmental and bodily).

Contel offers Rockwell Automation solutions in three main areas:

  • Predictive Maintenance: enables manufacturers to perform maintenance activities only when truly needed, and not according to a set work plan. This saves the customer time and resources by eliminating shutdowns and servicing that are not actually required at that point in time. This solution can be implemented using the portable ENPAC2500 for walk-around data collection from rotating equipment. The data are then transferred to a main database residing on a server with E-monitoring software.
  • Real time protection: this solution combines predictive maintenance (condition monitoring of rotating equipment) with an emergency shutdown capability in the event of deviation from the defined normal range (in terms of rotating equipment vibrations). This solution can be implemented by using intelligent I/O output units called XM modules. There are different types of XM modules, each geared to a specific type of measurement and to the type of sensor it is connected up to. Each such unit is equipped with a relay for ESD and with DeviceNet communication for interfacing to other/ additional systems. The equipment is capable of interfacing with the existing HMI systems and with the E-monitoring software designed to perform diagnostics on the data received from the rotating equipment on the production floor.
  • Continuous monitoring of vibrations (surveillance). Similar to condition monitoring, this solution enables continuous surveillance of the rotating equipment at a plant/ installation (where critical equipment is generally connected up). This solution is implemented using an Enwatch system (each such unit is connected to 16 different monitoring points (sensors)). The equipment is capable of interfacing with the existing HMI systems and with the E-monitoring software designed to perform diagnostics on the data received from the rotating equipment on the production floor. The system can be configured for continuous monitoring or for manual monitoring which involves taking samples from the field and transferring them to the computer systems for data analysis –
  • depending on the customer requirements and constraints:

Condition Monitoring is an effective method for maximizing Return on Net Assets (RONA) and improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
